one of the best side effects of dyeing your hair is if you do it often enough you can destroy people's sense of object permanence. it's like microdosing on shapeshifting.

i'll show up to work with a new dye job and my coworkers will literally be like i'm sorry who's this guy. and when i'm like it's me james? we've worked together for years? they're like "yes, i suppose see it now... you do look like him... but the james i know has blue hair... what kind of devilish trickery is this..."

I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the Barbie movie and about the parts that touched on real-life dynamics, but the most uncomfortably real part to me is something I haven’t seen talked about yet, and it’s when Ken ultimately collapses and Barbie goes to talk to him. And EVERY TIME she tries to support him, he interprets her words as his cue to try and make a move romantically. And every time she gently rejects his advances he collapses wailing and slapping himself to the point that she feels bad. For being honest about not wanting a relationship with him.

“No, Ken, this isn’t the answer,” was the best line in response to his existential problems and I’m 100% glad they had both Barbie sticking to it and the other Kens positively supporting Ken without having to dunk on Barbie or call her a bitch for refusing to fake romantic feelings she does not have.

what really got to me about the barbie movie is how the movie is really about how there is still a little girl inside all of us, and when you walk around the movie theater and see all these grown women dressed in pink and visibly excited, it's a reminder of that. but moreso, it's how your mother is a little girl too. and that all comes together in the end when barbie meets her creator. barbie was made so ruth's daughter could be anything she wanted to be, and she named her after her. in the end when ruth helps barbie become human, she is her mother. and when in the end barbie introduces herself as barbara, she is her daugher again. you can be anything, but being human and mortal and imperfect is the greatest gift of all.

my only "fashion advice" is that when in doubt you cannot go wrong with a short sleeved shirt layered over a longer sleeved one

"but it's a formal event" your best suit will look even better with a turtleneck "but i'm going to the club and i want to look sexy" there's nothing sexier than a mesh shirt peeking out from underneath your crop top "but none of my clothes match" they don't have to that's the fun part

minor barbie spoilers ahead!

my favourite detail in the movie is when barbie escapes the mattel building and jumps over the exit barrier with no hesitation- but the men get stuck because they don’t know how to get around a door that won’t open for them.

it’s such a small moment but it makes such a strong point. barbie has faced more obstacles in her few hours as a real woman than the men have faced in their lifetimes.

(not to mention that in the end, the door does open for the men anyway without them even trying- they were just doing it wrong)
